Sexually Transmitted Disease

The infections and diseases transmitted during sexual intercourse are very varied, they can be harmless or, on the contrary, fatal. Some have symptoms, some don't.

Definition: what is an STD or STI?

A disease that can be transmitted during sexual intercourse is an STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) or an STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection): it's the same thing.

It can be any type of unprotected sex: vaginal, anal (sodomy) or even oral (fellatio, cunnilingus). We also speak of "venereal diseases". Among the best known: AIDS, syphilis, or other genital infections such as Chlamydial urethritis or genital herpes.

NB: some STDs are only transmitted sexually, such as the papillomavirus, while others can also be transmitted by other routes (such as HIV, which can also be transmitted through blood).

How do you know you have an STD?

Some STDs such as herpes or HIV are known to the public, in particular because of their media coverage and the consequences they can have. Others remain poorly understood and their symptoms are often ignored for a long time, delaying their treatment. However, even if all STDs are not fatal, they can have consequences for the urogenital system in men or women, on the possibility of having children or on the development of the fetus in pregnant women. .

STDs, whether due to viruses, fungi, retroviruses or bacteria, must therefore be detected and treated as early as possible.

In general, their symptoms are: burning, itching, abnormal discharge, bleeding, unusual smell, redness, edema, pain during sexual intercourse or during the emission of urine, fever, fatigue.

How to treat an STD?

The best way to treat an STD is still not to be contaminated. Although sex is not always the only way of transmitting STDs, the use of condoms can limit their spread. It can be a male or female condom.

For some STDs, there are also effective means of prevention such as vaccination against the papillomavirus. In the event of an STI, an assessment of other sexually transmitted infections is recommended, as well as information and treatment of the partner(s), and protected intercourse until recovery.

In some cases, due to poor management, STDs persist and can no longer disappear with conventional pharmaceutical treatments. At this time, there remains the alternative of natural medicine which, fortunately, is effective in cases of antibiotic resistance and recurrence.
